How do you give your product a fair chance when Walmart's Sparky suggests a healthier swap?

An afternoon Walmart

Short answer

Make the nutrition facts and claims on your Walmart listing complete, written as text and identical to the label. Walmart has not said how Sparky picks a swap, but it can only compare what it can read.

On October 30 Walmart said shoppers can ask Sparky for a healthier swap for a recipe or a lower-sugar alternative to something already in the cart. A request like that is a comparison on a few numbers: sugar, sodium, calories, protein, serving size. If your listing leaves a field blank, puts the panel only in an image, or uses a serving size that differs from the label, your product is harder to compare against the item being swapped out. We would not chase the feature with new claims. We would make sure the facts that exist are filled in, consistent and easy to find, and that any claim such as no added sugar is one your label already makes.

Do this

  1. Open your top ten Walmart listings and check every nutrition attribute in the item setup against the printed label, including serving size.
  2. Write the key numbers, such as grams of sugar and protein per serving, into the description as text, not only in an image.
  3. List only claims the package already carries, worded the same way, such as no added sugar or 50% less sodium than a named reference.
  4. Ask Sparky for a lower-sugar alternative to a common competitor and note whether your product appears and which facts it quotes.
  5. Repeat the check after any reformulation or pack change.
