Does image alt text matter?
Yes: descriptive file names and alt text help image search and multimodal systems understand what's in the photo.
'IMG_4432.jpg' with empty alt text says nothing. 'oat-milk-barista-32oz-carton.jpg' with alt 'Oat Haus barista oat milk, 32 oz carton' says a lot. It's also an accessibility basic.
Do this
- Audit product images for missing alt text.
- Write alt text that describes the product, size and variant.
- Rename new image files before upload.
