What should you publish in Shopify's knowledge base so AI agents answer store questions correctly?

Publish the facts shoppers actually ask an assistant before buying: shipping times and costs, the return window, where you ship, and any certifications or allergen policies. Read every fact Shopify drafted from your storefront before you publish it, because once published it is the source agents quote.
Shopify's knowledge base, now under Sales channels > Agentic, is where AI agents look up the non-product facts about your store through Shopify's Storefront MCP, including Shop and third-party AI platforms. Shopify scans your storefront and drafts facts in categories like returns, fulfillment, payment and brand values, but scanned facts stay unpublished until you publish them, while facts tied to your admin settings, like store policies and contact details, are published as soon as they're created. For a food or personal care brand the useful extras are the questions a shopper types into ChatGPT: is it shipped cold, do you ship to Canada, is the facility nut-free. The knowledge base holds 1,000 facts in total, which is plenty if you keep each one short and specific.
Do this
- In your Shopify admin, open Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base and read each drafted fact against your live policy pages.
- Fix anything stale on the storefront page first, then edit the fact or set its source to Manual so the two match.
- Add Yes/No or Tags facts for the questions your support inbox gets most, such as shipping regions, cold-pack shipping or certifications.
- Publish only what you've checked, and give each manual fact a public page on your site as its reference link.
- Set a reminder to review suggested updates after every policy or shipping change, since a rescan can take up to 48 hours.
